About 2,000 Persian manuscripts kept in Austria

Tehran, IRNA – Head of Iran’s National Library said in a meeting with Austrian ambassador to Tehran that about 2,000 Persian manuscripts are being kept at Austria’s National Library.

Ashraf Boroujerdi, the head of the National Library and Archives Organization of Iran, in the meeting with Austrian Ambassador to Iran Stefan Scholz pointed to the historical relations between Tehran and Vienna, adding that there has been a long history of relationship between Austria and Iran, including in political and cultural arenas.


She went on to say that the National Library and Archives Organization of Iran welcomes transfer of Austria’s cultural sources to be placed in the Iranian organization.


Iran needs to use the experiences of Austrians in digitalizing books and other documents, the Iranian official noted.


Boroujerdi also said that she held a virtual conversation with her counterpart in Austria, discussing digitalized sources of national libraries of Austria and Iran and that she was informed in the conversation that there are about 2,000 Persian manuscripts in Austria’s National Library.


She further suggested that thinkers and scholars of both countries can initiate scientific cooperation, which can be fruitful for the current and future generations.


Stefan Scholz, for his part, said that given the historical facts, relationships between Iran and Austria dates back to more than 700 years and that there has been no conflict between the two nations.

He also expressed satisfaction that there is an atmosphere for Austria’s cultural sources in Iran’s National Library.


According to the ambassador, Austria’s delivered books consist of different topics, including art, culture, nature, and cooking.


Emphasizing the current positive relations between national libraries of Iran and Austria, Schultz went on to say that he promotes expanding and deepening of the cultural cooperation.


The meeting was held on June 23. Some other officials with the National Library and Archives Organization of Iran were present and spoke about the potentials to expand collaborations.
